In Susan Dynarski's article about taking notes with a laptop vs pen and paper, I learned that college students tend to learn less when they use computers in class and are more distracted than their old-fashioned peers. The main point is that when students use laptops, they can type everything the professor says at the same speed as they are speaking, no pausing for comprehension. When you take notes with a pen, you cannot keep up and need to compress what the teacher is saying, therefore engaging your mind. While we all use laptops differently in class, the general findings still are you will get better grades if you take notes on paper.
